Responsibilities

Tasks

  • Supervise, co-ordinate and schedule (and possibly review) activities of workers
  • Set up machines and equipment
  • Set up, program and operate one or more computerized or manual woodworking machines
  • Saw, trim and plane rough lumber into dressed lumber of various sizes
  • Read and interpret specifications or follow verbal instructions
  • Operate gluing machines to glue pieces or wood together or press and affix wood veneer to wood surfaces
  • Make minor adjustments and repairs
  • Install hardware on furniture and fixtures
  • Fabricate or repair wooden parts for furniture, fixtures and other wood products
  • Clean and lubricate machinery and equipment
  • Assist trucks and delivery drivers to load and unload vehicles
  • Assemble wooden or metal furniture and fixture parts to form subassemblies and complete articles
  • Read blueprints, written specifications and production drawings
  • Assemble wood products such as window sashes, doors, boxes, pallets, ladders and barrels
  • Operate preset special purpose woodworking machines to fabricate wood products
  • Read blueprints and drawings
