Responsibilities
Tasks
- Direct the delivery of social and community service programs
- Evaluate the delivery of social and community service programs
- Plan and organize the delivery of social and community service programs
- Hire and provide training for professional and non-professional staff
- Administer programs of membership organizations
- Administer the programs of non-governmental organizations involved with social issues
- Direct and advise professional and non-professional staff
- Establish administrative procedures
- Participate in policy development by preparing reports and briefs for management committees and working groups
- Plan, administer and control budgets for projects, programs, support services and equipment
- Represent their respective organizations for the purpose of government liaison and media relations
- Resolve conflict situations
- Administer tests
- Coaching
- Develop policies, procedures and contingency plans to minimize the effects of security breaches
- Write research papers, educational texts and articles
- Supervise other social workers, paid para-professional staff, student trainees and volunteers
- Supervise professional staff, program leaders and instructors and volunteer staff
- Serve as a member of an interdisciplinary team of professionals working with a client group
- Refer clients to agencies that provide financial assistance, legal aid, housing, medical treatment and other services
- Recruit and hire staff
- Provide public education and consultation regarding counselling services, issues and methods
- Provide consultation services to government and other organizations
- Plan programs of assistance for clients
- Perform administrative tasks
- Lobby for solutions to problems affecting client groups
- Interview client individually, in families, or in groups, to assess their situation and problems to determine the types of services required
- Deliver presentations at conferences, workshops or symposia
